Arizona cities are growing fast ahead of sports betting boom

Phoenix: It seems it’s not just the rising temperature as population centers throughout Arizona continue to see rapid growth in 2021.

Stat estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau in late 2021 showed that Arizona has five of the fastest growing cities out of any across all 50 states. This is based on cities with 50,000+ residents between June 2020 and July 2021.

Queen Creek Town and Buckeye both saw an overall 8.9% and 8.6% growth, respectively, during the 12-month period. This increase places them third and fourth among the 15 fastest-growing cities or towns in any state across the US.

Only the central Texas cities of Georgetown and Leander witnessed a more significant population growth than Queen Creek.

Arizona cities get the pull factor

There are currently a combination of factors attracting people into the Grand Canyon State beyond its natural wonders. One of the significant pulls, especially for neighboring California residents, is Arizona’s comparatively favorable high earner tax rates.

Personal income tax rates are capped at 4.5% for higher earning residents. It’s easy to see the appeal when compared with employees facing a top rate of 13.3% west of the state boundary.

Another reason for large numbers of people moving south could be the recent Arizona Gaming act. Signed into law on April 15, 2021, it has paved the way to make online sports betting in Arizona a reality for all the state’s residents aged 21 and over.
